Dr. Connie Luk
Pianist / Music Teacher / Collaborative Pianist
With passion in music performance and pedagogy, Dr. Connie Luk is actively pursuing her career in music teaching and performance. Luk has performed in both solo and chamber recitals as well as collaborated with various Western and Chinese instruments such as flute, violin, viola, cello, vocal, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, Zheng, Pipa, San Xian, and Liu Qin. During her study at Douglas College, Luk was the appointed piano accompanist of the school choir. After settling in Hong Kong, Luk is frequently invited to accompany different events, including performances at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, RTHK, TVB, and so on. Currently, Luk is one of the performing pianists in a piano quartet group called “Duetissimo” which performs piano ensemble music. Besides performance and private piano coaching, Luk teaches musicianship and group piano classes at the LCSD Music Office.
Throughout the years, Luk was educated in top institutions in North America and Asia Pacific. Luk holds a Ph.D. degree in piano pedagogy from the Hong Kong Baptist University. Her research focuses on Chopin’s pedagogical approaches to piano teaching. Prior to that, Luk graduated with distinction and scholastic award in Master of Arts in Music (major in piano pedagogy) from the Hong Kong Baptist University. Luk earned two bachelor degrees – a Bachelor of Music degree (Piano concentration) from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Arts degree (Economics) from the University of Victoria. Regarding professional development, Luk currently holds the LRSM diploma in Piano Performance (ABRSM), and the DipABRSM diploma in Principles of Instrumental Teaching – Piano (ABRSM). Luk continuously pursues training in various music teaching methodologies (e.g., the Dalcroze method) and the Certificate of Teaching program (ABRSM).
Luk has received numerous scholarships and prizes, including the Dr. G. Herald Keefer Music Scholarship, Hugh Livingstone Maze Scholarship, G. Nan and Jennie Y. Quon Memorial Medallion, Winfried Rompf Scholarship, and many other prizes.
Luk’s music journey was led, inspired, and enlightened by various reputable pianists/teachers/scholars, including Miss Grace Man (Hong Kong), Mrs. Sheila Hardy (Vancouver Academy of Music), Mrs. Ellen Silverman (Douglas College), Dr. Terence Dawson (University of British Columbia), Dr. Corey Hamm (University of British Columbia), and Professor David Chung (Hong Kong Baptist University).
